Thankful Thursday - Self Discipline

Self discipline is needed to turn your intentions into reality and your weaknesses into strength. Without it even if you know what you want you cannot work to get it. Knowing what you do not want, you do not know how to avoid it...

Self discipline is vital to living life on   your own terms. With effort, determination, and sacrifice those goals can be met.  It is not punishment but a means of obtaining fulfillment. It enables one to reach their highest goals and to become the best person they can be.

How do you get self discipline? You already have it and use it daily. It means nothing more than controlling your own actions and urges and you have used this since you were a child. To become more self disciplined merely means a conscious decision on one's part to begin living your life on your own terms. Today is the day to begin, this moment, do not postpone it as tomorrow is promised to no one and only this moment is ours.

Take care and God bless!

Mike & Molly

Thanks to Wm Rowe

Fall is by far my absolute favorite time of the year. There are so many different things that I love about fall, including the new fall line up on television. I always look forward to the new shows previewing in September and always hope that I can find a show that is a hit. One of the new shows premiering this fall that I am really looking forward to watching is Mike & Molly. I've seen a few previews on the channels I get with my satellite tv deals in Georgia and even read some reviews online, and by all indications it looks as if this show may be a keeper. My biggest draw to the show is the dry, sarcastic humor that is apparent in the previews of the show.
Mike & Molly shows the early stages of a relationship between a schoolteacher and a cop. It will be staring Melissa McCarthy, who is one of my favorite actresses. She had previously stared in Samantha Who and I absolutely loved her on that show. The couple meets at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting and continue their courtship. The first episode seems to show a funny, self-deprecating, dry sense of humor that I really love. Between the cast and the interesting story line and character relationships, I am hoping that this show will live up to my expectations.

The Living Fountain

 Living by an unknown author

To touch the cup with eager lips and taste, not drain it;
To woo and tempt and court a bliss ~ and not attain it;

To fondle and caress a joy, yet hold it lightly,
Lest it become necessity and cling too tightly;

To watch the sun set in the west without regretting;
To hail its advent in the east ~ the night forgetting;

To smother care in happiness and grief in laughter;
To hold the present close ~ not questioning hereafter;

To have enough to share ~ to know the joy of giving;
To thrill with all the sweets of life ~ is living.

The poet speaks of sharing and penned their thoughts and feelings so unselfishly without even leaving their name to seek recognition. This is one of the many poems selected by Hazel Felleman for The Best Loved Poems of the American People. We should not feel bad that we are not in this book as it was copy written in 1936. :-) That was before my time.

Find beauty where you are

There are many places I would like to see
But cannot afford to go

But God is constantly bringing bits of beauty to me
And putting on a show

I travel within my small town and work each day
Never venturing too far
But leaving my job yesterday
I found a vision next to my car...

Thankful Thursday - Being Good Enough

When I watch others at work, I think the job is easier for them to understand. They are smarter at computers than I. When I look at other blogs, I think theirs are prettier than mine, more popular, the pictures are much nicer...When I cook dinner I think someone else could prepare a much tastier meal. When I visit others in their homes I admire their furnishings and housekeeping and feel ashamed of my own.

When I see a couple walking hand in hand at the mall, I think he must really love her more than my husband loves me. You would not catch mine holding my hand. If he did, I'd need resuscitated!

When I get dressed for work, I think of how much nicer I used to look when I was  younger and the list goes on...I tie myself in knots with self doubts and insecurities.I found a poem in our church bulletin which must have been written by someone who could relate to this feeling:

The Knots Prayer

Dear God;
Please untie the knots
that are in my mind,
my heart and my life.
Remove the have nots,
the can nots and the do nots
that I have in my mind.

Erase the will nots,
may nots,
might nots that may find
a home in my heart.

Release me from the could nots,
would nots and
should nots that obstruct my life

And most of all,
Dear God,
I ask that you remove from my mind,
my heart and my life all of the "am nots"
that I have allowed to hold me back,
especially the thought
that I am not good enough.
Amen.

My Mysteries for the Week

God brought this pretty little tree
And planted it for me
I never watered it
Or gave it any care
But this pretty little tree
Is just growing there...
Isn't God amazing?
From a tiny seed comes a tree
Isn't He amazing
To share with you and me??
~
Nature by God
poem by Judy Sheldon-Walker

Question 1. What kind of berry/tree is this?
Question 2. How do you spell snuck, you know the past tense of sneak? My spell checker gives me red squiggled lines every time and offers no suggestions.

To help solve the world's mysteries :-) wander over to Blessing Reflections and have a wonderful and blessed week.

Butterfly Bush

While my clothes were in the washer

butterfly circle
two weeks ago I walked behind the Laundromat exploring with my camera. The sky was amazing and I shot a few sky shots, but my trigger finger was getting itchy. :-)

I spotted a butterfly bush and butterflies dancing around it. Hurriedly I turned my camera around and started shooting. Silly me, my focus was still on zoom. I was so disappointed, and this is not the first time I have done this. That’s why I appreciate your pictures all the more. :-) I can count on my fellow bloggers to share their wonderful shots!

Autumn Burned Brightly

Four lovely comments did not get posted
Because of the links that they boasted
If you want to see your comments here
Please post urls without links, and be a dear.

Sadly, every time I link to a meme I have to spend extra time sorting through comments to answer those with links in them, then delete the comments. I truly appreciate the comments, but cannot post those with links. Your comments are honored and special but Google may close an account for links in the comment area.

I feel awful that I even have to mention this, now on to celebrating Ruby Tuesday! There is brilliant red every where we look! A quote from Faith Baldwin goes:

Autumn burned brightly, a running flame through the mountains, a torch flung to the trees.

Budget Cuts Don't Effect Sunsets

I love sunsets and sunrises, but I love them even more when they are reflected on the water.The reflection makes them twice as stunning.

There will come a day when the sun will set for the last time...I purchased a new book called "Holy Humor." Our Father has a sense of humor, so I thought I would share a few laughs with you. Leslie Gibson, RN of Dunedin Fl. shared this one. A sign posted on a hospital ward read:

NOTICE
DUE TO THE CURRENT
BUDGET CUTBACKS,
THE LIGHT AT THE
END OF THE TUNNEL
WILL BE TURNED OFF
UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Of one thing we can be sure, there are no "budget cuts" to stop our sun from shining. To join in weekend reflections please visit Weekend Reflections and have a blessed weekend!

My Two Questions

Blessed Reflections has started a new theme and I want to play too! We get to ask two questions and help each other solve them! Sound fun? Click on the link and join in!

My first question is do you know what the above flower is? Icy told me to take pictures today and so I did. :-)  Anne, my co-worker asked me to too. She was side swiped on the way into work so I took a series of photos of the damage done to her car. Thankfully, she is o-k!! A bunch of these vivid little blue flowers were growing wildly near her car.

Question two -  . I was scheduled out of my job at 1:30 and had a 2:00 p.m. appointment for a blood pressure recheck. My doctor did not like my numbers and wanted to double the strength of my prescription. I was concerned over this proposition as long term medications can damage the liver, so she made me a bargain, she would recheck my pressure before calling in another prescription. Ever since being diagnosed with hypertension I have closely monitored my diet, particularly sodium and I am truly disappointed that I need to take medication to lower my blood pressure.

The nurse called me from the lobby to come back and get my second series of Depo-Provera. I looked at her puzzled. She held my chart. I saw my name typed across the label.  I told her I was there for my blood pressure recheck, and she states, "yes, after you get your shot."  By this time I thought she had clearly lost her mind. I then told her I was only there to get my blood pressure checked and nothing else. She left me alone in the room and briskly left the room to check. I'm thinking if this is the way they planned to double my prescription strength, it worked because I was having trouble remaining calm. I thought of my mother who has had a series of strokes and was left unable to talk. I could talk, but she can't. My mind was going a mile a minute. I was shocked that they could get my care that confused.

She came back about ten minutes later and asked if I was ready to get my pressure checked. I stated "Sure, after you scared me to death. We're going to get a good reading now, aren't we?" She replied, "Oh that was just a little error. It's o-k."

THISShortly after I am relating this to my husband and he is laughing his head off. He told me I over reacted and no harm was done. Did I over react?

Thanks for playing. Take care and God bless!

Outdoor Wednesday - Milkweed

I came across several milkweed plants bordering our church parking lot a few months ago. The sweet fragrance was amazing and had drawn several butterflies and bees, and me. :-)
The wind was somewhat fierce that day and I ended up deleting more pictures than I saved, but the fragrance was oh so tantalizing....

I love the way the dozens of flower buds hang from slender bouncy stems within one blossom, and look at the size of these leaves!

Break open the leaves and you will find they contain a milky substance used to treat warts. The milky substance may not only soften the warts but also inhibit the virus as well with proteolytic enzymes - The Green Pharmacy by James A. Dukes, PhD

These plants also invite the helpful garden pests to your garden. Did you spot a bee and a lady bug?

To share your outdoor shots please join us at Outdoor Wednesday! Take care and God bless!
