Make your home the one you've dreamed of

A few years ago I started a much needed home renovation. My son and I hired some workers he knew but they never finished the job. My home has a wall torn down without all of the mop board removed so sometimes I trip over the boards jutting out.

The workers were within our price range but had no ethics!

My son and I found workers who were within our price range, but not licensed. They worked only part of one day and skipped town after we paid them what they asked (upfront). I have an ugly eyesore for a reminder of my lapse in judgment.

I should have looked for licensed contractors.

Never will I pay upfront again. Maybe a deposit, but not the whole cost, and from now on I am looking for a licensed contractor. We contacted legal aid to find out what our recourse was and were advised that we were at fault for hiring workers who were not state licensed.

With a thirty year mortgage and half of it still to go, I would like to have my home finished.  It would be like a dream come true! I found a site online that advertises the following specials:

  • A $10,000 bonus give away which can be used on your next remodeling job
  • Local contractors
  • Discounts of up to 50% off
  • The ability to handle any remodeling job!
So if you are contemplating a remodeling job, please don't make the same mistake I did. Cheap isn't always best.

I'm sorry that you had to deal with that, Judy. My father went through that too. He got one of his friends to fix something and he never did finish the job.

Sorry to hear you had to learn these lessons the hard way Judy, it pays to be careful when hiring any contractor.
