Food Diaries for a Multitude of Reasons



My husband has been diagnosed with diabetes so we have taken a much stronger interest in carb watching.  I have had a fascination for nutrition for as long as I can remember but now I have even more reason to read labels. What about foods that come from the deli, or without labels, for example this tomato? You won't find a label hiding anywhere on it. :-)

If you are wondering; one medium tomato contains 40% of your minimum daily requirement of vitamin C with 0% fat, saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol. By knowing this, we know we can eat tomatoes without guilt. When we eat, we need to make what we eat count, meaning they should be high on nutrition while low on fat.

A proper diet goes a long way in improving our health and longevity, and I've found a site that will help you maintain a food diary.  Food diaries are helpful for a multitude of reasons. I kept one while trying to pinpoint my migraine triggers. Those with allergies find them particularly useful, and anyone who is trying to eat healthier will find it easier to maintain healthy eating once they track their foods.

There are calculators to help one keep track of calories, carbs, body mass, nutrients, and even burned calories. Type in the food you are curious about and get quick results. With a database of 90,000+ foods, diet, nutrition, fitness, recipes and iphone applications this site would take me a while to familiarize myself  with all the features, but I am sure it would be well worth the time. 

This is a free online tool with personal trainers, coupons, diet plans made especially for you; and a place to chart your progress. I was overwhelmed with the help aids here. I typed in Burger King junior whopper and was rewarded with this information:

  • Fat Calories: 42%
  • Carbohydrates Calories: 36%
  • Protein Calories: 21%
With the help of this tool you will have your waist whittled in no time and your health at it's all time best. Let's take the journey to better health.

I am so sorry to hear that your husband has diabetes. It runs in my family too. I also keep a food diary so that I am aware of how many calories I eat a day. It really is helpful.

I am desperately watching my diet as well. Been diagnosed with HBP. It's not good, and religiously working hard on this new problem

I started working out again and watching my food intake. I cannot afford to get sick here. So expensive.
