Golden Skies

Something magical happened tonight
Yellow streaks celebrated the night

A sky that was vivid blue all day
All the sudden made a way

For brilliant yellows to come on the scene
In the brightest sunset I've ever seen.

Nature by God
poem by Judy

Jeannie and I spent all afternoon at the laundromat, then I took her home. We enjoyed watching a sky of the most vivid blue with large fluffy white clouds all day, but after dropping her off, I gazed into the most incredible yellow sky. The blue gave way to the brightest yellow.  I rushed to the lake because there are fewer obstacles there and I could see the sunset better. I had hoped to catch a red sunset, but instead I was rewarded with this golden sunset.

If we have our hearts set on one particular thing, we may be disappointed. But if we are open to God's limitless possibilities, we will never be disappointed. This post is linked to  Mellow Yellow Monday .

Thankful Thursday - Creativity

Isn't she pretty? Can you believe that she was created out of a mop head? See her price tag? I was browsing in my favorite thrift store and was impressed by her charm, but not enough to buy her, only enough to take her picture. I wanted a picture in case I decided to make one for my grandchildren. I love being creative. There is something relaxing and quite satisfying about making something with your own two hands.

My two questions:

1. Do you have any hobbies that give you satisfaction/relaxation?

2. Are there home made things that you like to purchase/sell?

Chocolate is chocked full of health benefits and has been long used for medicinal purposes. For more about the health benefits you can read here. Add some luscious strawberries and add even more health benefits and nutrition.

Build Castles in the Air

"If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put foundations under them."  Henry David Thoreau

What better foundation than God's word?

I had just read this quote before heading off to church. Jeremy, our pastor taught us about the letter Paul wrote to the Phillipians. Although the book (his letter) is only four chapters long it contains nine references to the gospel; more than any other book in the Bible. Paul was incarcerated when he wrote this letter. He didn't know if he would ever be released, or even what his chances  for survival were, but his letter was one of love, joy and encouragement.

Why did he continually refer to the gospel?
  • Our help is in the gospel
  • Our support is there too
  • We can find our focus and
  • Be taught what we should do
What should we do with the gospel?
  • Study
  • Search
  • Share
  • Obey
  • Confirm
  • Defend
This was Paul's challenge of over 2,000 years ago.

His challenge is still as real as it was the day he wrote to the Phillipians. We can share the love, joy and courage he knew with Jesus. Take care and God bless. BTW if you wonder which verses contain the nine references, I looked them up and would be glad to share them with you. :-) The same God that lifted the spirits of Paul while he was imprisoned is alive today!

Take care and God bless. This post linked to Spiritual Sundays and Spiritual Musing Sunday.

What's your favorite natural remedy?

It was a windy day last summer and I wanted a close up of this chicory flower so I placed it on the trunk of my car and blocked the wind. Since beginning my journey of looking into natural remedies I have come to love many of them. I grew up eating dandelion greens never realizing the amazing benefits of this plant until much much later. For more about the benefits of dandelion greens read here.

It is a continual and fascinating journey.  My questions are:

1. What is your favorite natural remedy? Mine is turmeric.

2. What are the natural remedies you would like to learn more about? I want to know about them all!!

If you have the time please join us in  Two Questions Thursday. This is such a great way to get to know one another. THIS Take care and God bless!

Who stole spring?

Bottoms up. This is one way to get a cool head.

You thought I was kidding about it being "cool"?
Only the ducks are out. You don't see any children playing in the playground. Brrr....It's cold out. Who stole spring? Maybe that's what the ducks in the first picture were looking for? :-)

Paco Poses for us

Jeannie and I went to do our laundry Sunday and in between washing and drying Paco was quite entertaining. Paco and Buddy belong to the owners of the laundromat and are quite friendly and tame. Paco hung upside a couple times enjoying her stroking his tummy.

The Show before the Curtains Fall

The beauty of the skies arise
To capture and taunt my very eyes
I watch with bated breath to see
The many colors God shares with me
And when the colorful display is done
And I no longer see the sun
A velvet black curtain comes down
And darkness falls upon the town.

Shimmering White Diamonds

Have you ever noticed how the facets of snow sparkle and glitter like a million tiny diamonds? I was gazing out the window at the sparkly snow covered world on my break and grabbed my camera. I examined each picture after taking it.  Why is it my camera cannot see what my eyes can see?

Tis only a moment taken from a busy day
A quiet moment stolen to scurry away
To gaze out the window and forget walls of white
Knowing escape is not possible til later tonight

Wondering eyes capture limbs covered with snow
Admiring the sparkling white on branches that glow
A million diamonds glittering from outside can I see
Winking and blinking merrily at me.

The Heart of the Home

From the South Bronx to Southern Michigan

When I was raising my children in the projects of the south Bronx, we prayed nightly for a home to call our own. I was finally able to buy that home in 1994 and now I want to remodel it. The kitchen has very few cupboards and it is too crowded for two people to fit comfortably in it. I feel almost guilty for being unhappy in the slightest, because I do, after all have a house now and it is in Michigan. I was able to move my children away from the Bronx and to a much safer neighborhood. God is good!

Isn't it human nature to want to remake our surroundings?

We are creatures of comfort after all. I admit it. I have been looking online for contractors who can make my dreams come true. A girl can dream, can't she?   Currently I am the one who is responsible for all the kitchen chores. My husband gets aggravated by the tightness of the kitchen and turns around and walks back out leaving me with the cooking and cleaning. I grew up in a home with a country kitchen. Grandma had one too. We would all sit at the kitchen table and play cards after finishing the dishes. The kitchen was the heart of our homes so I am frustrated that mine cannot accomodate our large family.

Maybe your kitchen is just the way you like it.

Maybe there is something else about your home that you are dissatisfied with? Let me share a site with you that I found while on my internet journeys. It is called Style My House and they are currently running a $10,000 give away and 50% discounts on local contractors. With all the people out of work, I would love to win the money and give someone a job, while I am getting my kitchen redone.

Sunset Lifts the Weariness

The day ends and the bones are weary
The day is long, the heart is dreary
But then from neath the clouds is found
A shining sun and beauty 'round

Funny how the dreariness
And also all the weariness
Melts away with with just the sight
Of a setting sun on a lonely night

Don't be like Jonah and stay in the shade

God called Jonah to preach to the Ninevites.

God directed Jonah to visit Nineveh and preach to the people there. Jonah pleaded with God as he did not want to minister to the sinful inhabitants there. Was it jealousy, because he knew he had followed God all these years and they had not? Was it lack of compassion? Was it laziness because he felt these people were not worth the extra effort to preach to? He asked God to turn His back on the Ninevites and fled Nineveh trying to avoid God's command.

The book of Jonah tells us that Jonah avoided the dreaded task first by grabbing a boat to Tarshish. The Lord gently reminded him of his task by stirring up a storm; one so strong that everyone on the boat feared for their lives. Jonah may have had a total disregard for the Ninevites, but his conscience would not allow him to risk all the passengers lives so he instructed them to toss him overboard. Once they did that the waters calmed.

Our God is patient and merciful.

He sent a great fish to swallow Jonah. Jonah had time to think about his disobedience while in the belly of the whale. After awhile Jonah was taken to dry land and deposited there by the whale. He then travelled to Nineveh where he reluctantly preached the gospel. The Ninevites repented and God decided to spare them. This distressed Jonah so much that he sat outside the city limits in the hopes they would return to their evil ways and the city would be destroyed. While sitting outside the gates the sun would beat down upon him causing him to feel discomfort. God created a plant to spring up overnight and provide Jonah with relief from the unrelenting heat of the sun.

But God does not do things without a purpose.

He then sent a worm to destroy the plant. He sent strong winds to carry the heat and a hot steamy day. Jonah became distressed over the loss of shade. He had shade for one day. He did nothing to cultivate the plant, but sorely missed it. God asked him if His children should not mean more than a plant? A city of people was slated for destruction, but Jonah would not bow his head and say a prayer for them. Jonah did not want to share the good news of Jesus and was upset when they had taken the good news and applied it in their lives. He prefered they met with destruction.

Let's get out of the shade and follow God's direction.

He has a purpose and a plan for each of us and it is only when we follow Him that we will be fulfilled. Take care and God bless! I hope your new year is healthy, happy and prosperous!
