Black Eyed Susan: Pretty and Practical

This beautiful flower reseeds itself and can be used for a multiple of purposes, however it is the roots and not the seeds that are used similarly to its cousin echinachea purpurea:
  • as an astringent used in a warm infusion for snake bites, sores and swelling.
  • used as a poultice for treating worms and colds in children.
  • used as a diuretic.
  • used to create an ear drop solution.
This post linked to Macro Monday, Mellow Yellow Monday, and Today's Flowers. Thanks so much for your visit. Take care and God bless.

I didn't know the roots had so many functions!

There is something about yellow flowers, when I see them I can't help but smile. The Black eyed Susans are beautiful Judy, I had no idea they were so useful.

Well, I was finally able to post a comment on your beautiful blog this morning! I love Black Eyed Susans. I planted a few of them years ago at the side of my house. They've always done well until this year. It seems they've packed up and left me this season.

I didn't realize this flower had so many practical uses. I've learned something new today, but I've learned many new things visiting you.

Hope you have a wonderful week!

Blessings,
M.

This is a beautiful flower. I thought it was a sunflower too. :) I could use this since it works as a diuretic. If I am on my feet too long, they swell. Thanks for sharing.
