Good News for those who have Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed malignancy among men, but it does not have to end there.

Nearly a quarter of a million men are diagnosed with prostate cancer yearly and the likelihood of getting prostate cancer increases dramatically after the age of 60 becoming approximately 1 in 8. The odds increase even higher for those with a family history of prostate cancer.

For men there are ways to improve the odds in your favor.

There are certain foods and herbs which help to cut the risk of cancer and  protect your immune system :
  • ·         Four ounce glass of wine daily.
  • ·         Xanthohumol which is found in hops and helps to inhibit the growth of cancer cells.
  • ·         Foods high in vitamin D
  • ·         Cooked tomatoes.
  • ·         Pink grapefruit.
  • ·         Watermelon
  • ·         Ketchup (the darker the better)
  • ·         I3C found on broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and brussel sprouts.
  • ·         Capsaicin such as found in chile peppers
  • ·         Ellagic acids which are found in cranberries
  • ·         Carotenoid rich foods such as swiss chard, chicory, spinach, beet greens and spinach.
  • ·         Quercitin found in onions, and also sulfur which is found in onions aids in halting tumors.
  • ·         Saponin found in a large assortment of herbs, vegetables, nuts and oats.
  • ·         Pomegranates contain a good dose of anti-inflammatories, anti-oxidants and flavonoids.
  • ·         Phenols which are found in good supply in black and green tea.
  • ·         Licorice
  • ·         Pumpkin seeds
  • ·         Saw palmetto

And of course there are things to avoid such as:
  • ·         Tobacco
  • ·         Caffeine
  • ·         Excessive alcohol
  • ·         Stress
o   And for some men:
§  Antihistamines
§  Decongestants
§  Acidic and spicy foods

New treatment is available.

And for those who are diagnosed with cancer there is an alternative HIFU treatment which has been found to be effective in the treatment of prostate cancer.  (Click on HIFU to visit their site and order a free brochure.) The procedure is performed using cutting edge technology which allows the patient to undergo an extremely noninvasive procedure. The procedure takes 2 to 3 hours and the patient can get up and walk home once it is completed.

Only the prostate is targeted in the treatment.

The prostate tissue is heated to about 90 degrees Celsius destroying the cancerous tissue which will eventually be washed away in urination. Adjacent tissues and organs remain unharmed.

Who Says You Can't See Love?

Surely a God who puts tenderness in a  kiss
Can create a sky that looks like this

It is He  who planned the day,
both the end and the start
It is He who placed the love
within the living heart

Do you doubt He exists?
Can you not see Him there?
He is in the stars, the sun
He is in the very air...

Nature by God

Dream Big

Austin luxury condos

The saying “dream big,” may bring to mind the thought of buying a house or condo; something you can call your own and actually decorate in your own style. It doesn’t matter where in the country you’re at as long it’s a place you can call home and have your say about living in the home of your choice. After all this is where you can be you and let your hair down. It should reflect your personality and allow you to be comfortable and creative.

Whether you are a city or suburban type, once the ideal place is decided upon, you need to select your home. If an individual is into lively areas and activities Austin luxury condos should  catch their interest. It has modern edgy looks with an open kitchen to the living room, spacious bedrooms and spa comfort bathroom(s) which shout both comfort and luxury. The condos are spacious and full of modern conveniences making them perfect for entertaining or relaxing after a hard day of work or play. If you’re into a great view then their condos is where it is at. The views are marvelous. They have windows facing the city or the ocean, so you make the choice of which you prefer. Either is spectacular.

Many of the city’s conveniences are all within walking distance of the condos in downtown Austin, making it is easy to run your errands without need of a car, stop and grab a bite, or shop. This is a real plus when it comes to getting your daily exercise. Condos are popular among fresh newlyweds or bachelors/ bachelorettes starting out on their own. They represent a new start and beginning signified by an individual personality.

How to Prepare a Natural Miracle Skin Care Product

Facial products can irritate skin and not just sensitive skin but skin of almost any type, which is why homemade products made from natural ingredients found in your home are not only more economical but safer for your skin. Here is a recipe for a natural skin care product that will gently clean, sooth and moisturize your skin, improving your skin’s feel, look and texture.

The main ingredient in this facial product is heavy whipping cream. Cream is a particularly good choice as it is an excellent source of lactic acid which is naturally germicidal and is beneficial in aiding in removing dead skin cells and uncovering healthy skin cells beneath. Milk protein is a good source of protein and nourishing to the skin.

The honey is also naturally germicidal, and a natural humectant which draws moisture to the skin. It also contains anti-inflammatory agents to aid in gently reducing pain and swelling from blemishes.

The tea has antioxidants and tannins which encourage skin cell renewal while removing impurities from the skin.

First brew your tea and let it cool slightly. Then gather the ingredients:

·         2 cups of heavy whipping cream
·         4 tablespoons brewed warm orange pekoe tea
·         2 tablespoons runny honey
·         1 whip cream dispenser
·         1 mixing bowl
·         1 wire whisk

Pour cream into the bowl, blend in honey. Stir in tea whipping until frothy. Use on face and neck applying liberally. Allow to set for 5 to 8 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water. Store the remaining product in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 to 4 days or refrigerated in a whip cream dispenser for up to 10 days.

Another way to improve your skin’s moisture is to replace body fluids throughout the day. One positive way is to drink pure soda water. You can cut down on the expense of purchasing bottle water by making your own with a soda siphon. The purchase will pay for itself in no time :-) and you can reduce the plastic in our landfills.

A Meat Worth Breaking the Rules for

barbecued ribs

His ribs are finger looking good.

Hubby is a meat eater while I love vegetables and pasta. I research alternative medicine and health issues so am quite aware that consuming  red meat to an excess can be detrimental to our health and hubby is beginning to agree with me, so he eats very little beef, and we purchase more fish, fowl, and pork. Hubby loves meat and excels in the cooking out department, while I am the chief cook in the house. I make coleslaw, corn on the cob, potato salad or macaroni salad, and corn bread then serve fresh fruit for our cook outs. But I confess, although I seldom eat meat, I will make an exception for his finger looking good ribs.

A little of this and little of that makes his sauce so tasty.

My hubby makes the most delicious grilled ribs. We generally cook them on the stove before grilling. He is extremely careful to be sure the meat is cooked all the way through and he says that parboiling them first helps to make them cook quicker and tenderer.  Then he makes the most awesome barbecue sauce to place on them when done.  I get to gather the ingredients for him and then stand back and watch. My husband doesn’t generally cook so this is one of those rare moments I treasure. :-) I can only tell you that he uses brown sugar, fresh lemons, ketchup, honey and store brand barbecue sauce.  He cooks it on top of the stove until it thickens and after a little bit of this and that and few taste tests it is declared ready.

Hubby deserves a new grill.

I was looking at some of the new barbecue grills at the store the other day, as our children borrowed ours, and some of these are fancier than my cook stove. I am thinking about buying hubby a new grill for father’s day and maybe getting one that uses gas cylinders. In fact they even have disposable gas cylinders now. How convenient is that?

Never say Never

Neglected and needy I demand His attention
On bended knee with much apprehension
Not knowing nor understanding
Not trying to, just demanding...
Heads are nodding, we're agreeing
It can be tough to be a human being
Nothing gets paid on the due date
They are always a day or two late.
But what am I seeking? Is it money?
Trying to make it like bees make honey
Naked we entered and breathless we leave
Never say never and forever believe.

Keeping my fragile collection intact

Guest post written by Polly Damascus

I guess that when you spend enough time and money putting stuff into a certain collection, you'd really like to make sure that it stays intact but in a place where you can show it off. I'd like to get my glass bird collection out of my china cabinet because you can't really look at them very well behind the glass in there. So I'm in the market for some good and sturdy shadow boxes to hold my collection instead.

I was looking for a very specific kind of shadow boxes, ones that have lots of little boxes in them the better to store my birds adequately. And after I found the boxes I was looking for, I saw a site on debt reduction counseling and after I glanced through it, I decided to use it some to get counseling and help my finances.

Once I get my shadow boxes delivered to me I might just paint the boxes in them a different color to really help bring even more attention to my bird collection. I think that would really set it off. I'm thinking white to do that.

Words or Nature?

Golden Rain Tree

Tiny little leaves,

like fists unfurled

Shaking themselves

at the world...

I love to embed my photos with my name, poetry or quotes so was truly grateful when Icy, BC told me about photoscape and it had the program which enabled that. Then another friend told me about Zoner which also has that program so now I am happily playing with both free programs. There is something very relaxing and inspiring about uploading pictures of God's work.

Here are a few pointers on how to use the text feature. It is really simple. Trust me, if I can do it, you can too! When I post words I am always torn between making my words noticeable, or subtle, as I love God's work and never want to try and overshadow His artwork. :-) These instructions are for PhotoScape.

Under Object in the edit feature:
  • Click on T for text
  • Type your words into the text box
  • Using the down arrow for the drop down select Segor Script
  • Select your colors for words, outline and shadow, click apply for outline, and shadow. BTW they all have color options. Select from the drop downs. Mine is White, Navy and Yellow in that order but the color choices are limitless. (I should have probably made a different selection for the first photo, but wanted you to see how it does make a difference. )
  • Move your text box to where you want your letters placed, stretch for larger letters then click on it to get it to stay put. If you are unhappy, you can always undo.

Thankful Thursday - Weddings

I love beautiful weddings! How about you? Chris and Mariolina are planning to renew their vows one year and have the wedding she has always dreamed about. I was so grateful that the young lovebirds just stood before a court official and got married last year while I was on vacation. It was such an unselfish act of love, allowing me the privilege of being there, but I understand her desire to have her big day, and think that even my son desires something more elaborate. What man does not want to see his beloved in a beautiful gown and every other man in the room turning to admire his bride?

Mari and I have talked about weddings. She has watched special shows on television dedicated to dream weddings, one of which has an ongoing contest to actually help plan your dream wedding. We have browsed through magazines checking out the dress styles and floral arrangements. A wedding is truly many dreams come true and many plans culminated into one eventful day.

I might not get to travel out of state to actually see this big day but am grateful for sharing in her planning. I lucked up on finding a beautiful site which offers some exquisitely designed floral arrangements. It offers flower delivery in metro Denver, but not only flower delivery but they offer a free consultation and ask that you just log into to chat with them about your upcoming special day. They work with the couple to offer  unique floral arrangements Denver. Every couple deserves their own unique and special day.

1. What do you wish you could do differently about your wedding day?

2. What do you particularly like about what you or someone you know did at theirs?

Thankful Thursday - Advice

Baby gifts

The baby shower was loads of fun. The first thing we did after being seated was to pass around a notebook and I asked everyone to think of their best parenting advice for the new parents.

Pictured above is part of the gift my youngest daughter, Ruby gave to her youngest brother and his new wife. We gave from the bottom of our hearts, but we must also share our wisdom. Raising a new baby is such a wonderful blessing, but also an awesome responsibility.

Amanda, I am taking advantage of your graciousness in hosting Thursday Two Questions to ask

1) if you remember the first dilemma you had as a new parent and (2) how you solved it! We all were new once and babies don't come with manuals. :-) Both my son and his new wife have been around a lot of babies but their own baby 24/7 is just a bit different.

Thanks so much for visiting me today. Take care, stay healthy, and God bless!
