The Origin of Mother's Day

A tender moment between mother/child

Mother's day has it's roots in ancient Greece where there was an annual spring festival honoring maternal goddesses. It was also celebrated in ancient Rome some 250 years before Christ was born. It included parades games, parades and masquerading.

Although it is currently celebrated in at least 46 countries, it is celebrated on different dates.

It was celebrated as a mothering Sunday in the UK before it made it's way to the U.S.

Baby of Mandy Mouse

Minnie Mouse is Mickey Mouse's girlfriend. Her sister's name is Mandie and she had twins named Millie and Melody.

Yellow rose

If you were given yellow roses what might the giver be feeling for you?

Yellow is for joy, gladness, friendship, delight and a promise of new beginnings.

If they are tinged in red they could mean the giver is falling in love with you.

This post is linked to Random 5 Friday. I just saw this linked in Jim's blog and thought it would be fun to give it a try. My daughter in law and granddaughter are pictured above. We are celebrating her first birthday party this weekend using the theme Minnie Mouse so thought it would be fun to find out more about the delightful Disney baby. (In her daycare her teachers thought her eye lashes made her a perfect Minnie mouse.)

Forgive my formatting. Google cannot be tamed today. Thanks for visiting me today. Take care, stay healthy and God bless!

There was an article on the origin of Mother's Day and I failed to read it. My son also wanted to know.

I remember reading about what the different colors of roses meant when I was a child :)

Happy weekend to you Judy.
