Anne, I had heard on the news that because of the economy some schools have had to cut programs and athletics is one. It is truly hurting our children. I agree with Icy in that coaches need to be fair minded, but if the programs work the way they are supposed to it can be an awesome experience for our youth. Like CA says it can be fun and challenging. Children need to be motivated and learn the social skills that healthy competition imparts.

Definitely. I'm upset that they're removing a lot of competitive sports from schools. I think competition is healthy and good for children especially. We just have to keep it to a healthy level.

Icy, you are so right. Unhealthy competition can be devastating, but when it is used correctly it can help us strive to do our best. We can find ourselves doing better than previously imagined. Leaders should inspire not manipulate and use the talents of those they lead.

I see both sides of competition, and it depends on the leader, it can be a fun way to boost our thriving, but fall in wrong hand, it can also crush our self-esteem. And I see this throughout high school sports, where coaches play favoritism..

Chan and Judy, I have to agree with that competition when not taken to extremes is healthy. Like Cherie said we need to have fun while doing it. We want it to motivate not discourage.

You're right! Competition boosts one to do better either for their study or work. However, extreme competition may create more social related problems.
